Meet the HSDY Partygoer: Catriona Bateman

Singer-Songwriter.

On the HSDY Blog we love to share partygoer’s stories and we are delighted to introduce you to Cat who first partied with us at The Trafalgar in Greenwich last year and now she says she’s hooked.

WHAT’S YOUR HSDY STORY?

I saw HSDY on Instagram and thought it looked fabulous. It was all the things I loved. I absolutely adore dancing, especially when I know the songs and can sing along, and love dressing up too.

A lovely couple of mates were celebrating their birthdays so I went along to The Trafalgar in Greenwich and I was HOOKED! I started dancing at 7:31pm and finished at midnight. I think I was a bit rude to friends as I really only want to dance, not drink or chatter much!

I have since been to two more nights (Stanley Halls & Beckenham Place Park) and get so excited when HSDY is coming around in the diary. I look out all the time for new sparkly outfits and I have even bought a crimper to do my hair - it’s serious!

WHEN YOU’RE NOT DANCING AT HSDY, WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?

I am mum to two lads, 12 & 10. My eldest has Type 1 Diabetes so I am passionate about spreading the word about that. If you would like further information, two amazing sites are www.jdrf.org.uk and www.uclh.nhs.uk

I have had my small business, Little Folk Nursery Rhymes for almost 8 years. I sing and play nursery rhymes on guitar to any exhausted parents and their bubbas that will listen! My groups run weekly at six or so fab & quirky local venues around SE20/25/26 and I am super-proud that it’s still going. I love the joy that music and singing can bring. I think it’s so important.

I have released a CD and have started doing music festivals too - last year I did End of the Road and this year I was at Cornbury.

I am also trying to be more modern so I have launched a YouTube channel to spread nursery-rhymes EVERYWHERE and people can sign up to for free.

When I can squeeze it in, I make myself do open-mic nights at local pubs where I play my own songs. I need to get braver at singing my stuff in front of other humans but at the age of 50 I have nearly finished my first album!

I live in Sydenham, South East London. I really love it as it feels full of musicians and artists, there’s a lot of us wandering around with instruments on our backs! My favourite local places are the flippin’ fabulous Poodle Comedy Club - London’s Happiest Little Comedy Club . It really is a very special place and owned by lovely humans who attract great names on the comedy circuit.

Also Alexandra Nurseries in Penge is the cutest independent garden centre, café and vintage home and garden wares shop and I can’t leave out the joyful Grow Mayow Community Garden. It is a hidden away gem of Sydenham and once you discover it, you never want to be without it!

FAVOURITE HSDY VENUE

I haven’t tried them all out yet (but I know I will!) so the one I like the very best so far is The Trafalgar. It’s a very grand, high-ceiling-ed affair and has just the right level of faded glamour, and it is a massive dance-floor so you can totally GO-FOR-IT!

FAVOURITE HSDY TRACK

I have found this beyond difficult as nearly every track has me squealing with delight. The DJs are always amazing but I do have a particular soft-spot for the beauty that is DJ Da’Lynne. Maybe Proud Mary by Tina Turner, but then there’s also Cameo’s Candy. I have finally got my head around the Electric Slide dance, though I seem to have to learn it from scratch again each time. Luckily Lady Boo is a gorgeous and patient teacher!

So that's it from Cat. If you fancy sharing your HSDY partygoer story then drop us an email at info@haventstoppeddancingyet.co.uk and you could be next.

See you on the dance floor!
